Turning 100
AUPE's century of history was made by working people, and belongs to all Albertans! Members have been getting ready for the big year, and centennial initiatives focus on the proud history of what has grown to become Alberta’s largest and most diverse union.
A Gift to All Albertans
AUPE members celebrated their centennial year by commissioning one-of-a-kind artwork by renowned Indigenous artist, Alex Janvier, to be displayed in the Legislative Assembly Chamber as a gift to all Albertans.

Centennial Kick-off
On March 26, 1919, a small group of Albertans made their way towards Edmonton’s First Presbyterian Church. At a time when unionizing was considered insubordination, their meeting was start of what would become Alberta's largest union. The AUPE Centennial Kickoff honours these humble but bold beginnings and takes place at the First Presbyterian Church on March 26, 2019.

Centennial Census
In 2018, AUPE conducted its first Member Census since the CSAA surveyed its members in the 1960s. The census data will help the union focus our advocacy work, better inform our strategies at bargaining tables and help build a stronger sense of solidarity among all of us.

Labour School 2019
The focus of AUPE Labour School 2019 is commemorating the struggles and stories of workers who built our union and our province! This year's Labour School courses include a Centennial-themed Arts and Labour History course that allows AUPE members to explore the creation of AUPE’s predecessor in 1919 through arts-based activities. Labour School takes place March 10-14, 2019.

Parade Float
A people-powered parade float has been designed and built for parade season in summer 2019! The float will be part of parades across the province, and members are welcome to volunteer as part of the Centennial parade float crew!

Centennial Poster Series
The Centennial Project tells the story of Labour and the working class through a commissioned series of posters. The series celebrates some of the major events and themes in the history of AUPE and working people in general.
